Overview

PokéDeck is a conceptual mobile application that is based on the Pokemon Pokédex. The mobile application was designed for beginners who are new to the franchise of Pokemon and who are looking for information that will allow them to learn about the types of Pokemon, what they eat, their stats, and the different evolution stages.

Backstory of Project

As a beginner myself, wanting to learn which type is stronger against different types, figuring out different Pokemon and how they are placed in the Generations are in the mind when playing the game but it can be hard to know where to begin because of how developed the card game is. With a classmate, we began the initial idea of the application by looking at Competitors and what they do well and what they lack in the areas of design and information as well as figuring out the primary audience the game targets.

    User Flow Chart

The user flow chart was divided between two scenarios. For those who are new to the app, their flow will be on the first box to the left for those who have an account already, their flow will start on the right box. Regardless, both users will end up on the right side once inside the application.

    Competitive Analysis

When I began looking for competitors, I looked at the Apple App Store and all kinds of applications that had a relation to Pokemon but there were a few that were dedicated to look and operate like the Pokédex. These are the 3 mobile applications that I compared and view its value in the market.
Based on the ratings from the App Store and the comments that were written by customers, these are the pros and cons that were found.
    • 3.7 out of 5 Stars
    • UI is clean
    • Moves for each Pokemon should be displayed
Based on the ratings from the App Store and the comments that were written by customers, these are the pros and cons that were found.
    • 4.7 out of 5 Stars
    • Quite helpful for trainers of any level
    • App is too big in RAM

      Reflection

Working on my first mobile application project outside of school was an interesting experience and one in which I was tested on all the topics that I learned in the first year of IMD. My design process was similar to the projects that I was a part of during the school. Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. In this project, I was able to achieve the 4 stages except for test. During the time, I had no idea what usability testing was until the beginning of my Senior year. One thing that I would like to do in move forward with this project is to test out the solution that was created and figure out what works and what doesn't. This will provide a polish approach and sharpen the edges on the solution that matter to the user.
